A 22-YEAR-OLD man has been charged in connection with an assault on two police officers in Devizes on Sunday.

George Maslen, of Nursteed Close, Devizes is appearing at Swindon Magistrates Court this morning charged with Actual Bodily Harm, Common Assault and Possession of a Class B Drug.

A 24 year-old man - arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent - has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

I'll hazard a wild guess that - if he eventually gets found guilty - he'll probably get a sentence of something along the lines of a £50 fine and a few months probation. Maybe if the judge is having a really bad day he'll get a few hours of community service too.

Assault against anyone should mean jail-time, whether it's a first offence or not; and assault against police officers should automatically double the sentence.
