Work will start on July 28 to resurface the disintegrated Cocklebury Road and Station Hill in Chippenham.

The work will be done in three phases over six weeks – New Road to the top of Monkton Hill, Monkton Hill to Sadlers Mead, and Sadlers Mead junction to Esmead.

Chris Caswill, Wiltshire councillor for Chippenham Monkton, said: “For part of the time Monkton Hill will return to traffic light controlled two way. There will inevitably be some disruption during the work.”

Coun Caswill started asking for the work to be done five years ago when the Esmead to Eastern Avenue end was done.

He said: “I argued that the whole road needed doing. It has been a long haul.

“I am pleased to say that I have got the engineers to agree also to shave a bit off the pavement opposite the old sorting office, at the top of Station Hill, to help improve the bottleneck there.”
