Eco-friendly businesses and groups enjoyed the opportunity to exchange contacts at Calne’s third Green Day, organised by the town’s environmental network.

The event, held at the Town Hall last Saturday, included more than 20 stallholders offering visitors tips on green living, as well as four different talks.

Friends of the Earth set up a stall alongside Wiltshire Wood Recycling, the Friends of Abberd Brook and the Wiltshire Bee Centre.

A raffle raised £70 for the Calne Fairtrade Group and the Calne Environmental Network raised £100 by selling tea and cakes.

Peter Knight, chairman of the Calne Environmental Network, said: “It helps us throughout the year, when we have to buy seeds and gloves, and we have various other expenses.

“A lot of stallholders complimented us on what a nice event it was. A couple of people said they had met new contacts. There was a real buzz upstairs, where we had most of the business stalls.

“Most of the companies and the volunteer groups were from the Calne area, so it’s quite encouraging that we can fill two floors of the town hall with groups just from Calne.

“I think we competed a bit with the summer solstice this year and the fact the weather was so brilliant. I think we’re going to try and change the date for next year.”
