Villagers were astonished after a peaceful Pewsey pub was the scene of a vicious attack late on Saturday when Tom Sharp was struck in the face with a pint glass.
Police were called to the Royal Oak, North Street, at midnight on Saturday, shortly after the pub had closed.
Tom Sharp, 22, of Pewsey, was in shock after the incident, bruised and suffered cuts to the head and neck.
An ambulance crew arrived just after midnight and treated him.
Mr Sharp was taken to Great Western Hospital, Swindon, where he had to have stitches.
Landlord of the Royal Oak, Barry Hussey, said: “It’s not something that happens here. Usually we don’t have any problems.
“We hope that the person involved is doing well and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
Well wishers have shown their support for Mr Sharp on the Pewsey Notice Board Facebook page.
Daniel Evetts, 28, of Pewsey High Street has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Swindon Crown Court on July 18.
