Calne Police video: Seized booze? It's all poured down the drain...

This Is Wiltshire: Calne PCSO Mark Cook pours away the confiscated alcohol Calne PCSO Mark Cook pours away the confiscated alcohol

Police in Calne created a Facebook video to show what happens to confiscated alcohol after seizing bottles and cans from a group of girls in Castlefields Park on June 21 around 8pm.

Members of Calne’s CCTV team first spotted the group of girls, some over 18 and some under 18, walking through the town towards Castlefields Park.

Police say when they went to the park the owner of the alcohol, who was over 18, was verbally abusive towards them.

She was told she could collect it from the police station the following day, but after further verbal abuse the alcohol was confiscated.

The alcohol, which included a bottle of rose wind, two bottles of vodka, pear cider and Strongbow cider, was poured down the sink.

Calne PCSO Mark Cook said the Facebook video was created to bust the myth that police drink confiscated alcohol.

He said: “After posting a picture of the alcohol on Facebook several people questioned what we do with the alcohol so I advised that I was going to post a video of us putting the alcohol down the sink.

“We seize a huge quantity of alcohol some weekends and it was nice to be able to show through the Facebook site that we do dispose of alcohol and don’t just drink it.

“We are out early in the evening actively patrolling Calne town centre.

"We requested that Calne CCTV team report any sightings of youths with alcohol due to recent concerns raised from residents of The Wharf about youths drinking in the park.

“Confiscation of the alcohol would have undoubtedly prevented any further anti-social behaviour that evening.”
