Teenage boys dressed in their best bib and tucker did their best to be chivalrous escorts to young women in full-length gowns as Year 11 pupils at Malmesbury School held their prom.
The sun shone at Alexandra House Hotel and Conference Centre in Wroughton as students arrived in an array of unusual vehicles including a bright red double-decker bus, a vintage fire engine and a Bedford Dormobile.
The atmosphere of a more chivalrous era was enhanced by the number of pupils arriving in a variety of 1930s saloons but there was also a good turn out of farm vehicles including freshly washed tractors.
Senior pastoral leader Rachael Allaway said: “Lots of the ladies wore full-length fitted dresses in a variety of colours, all having spent a lot of time and money in preparation for the evening.
“They were ably escorted by very well-dressed young men, who appeared to enjoy the opportunity to be chivalrous for the evening.
“The Prom committee had worked very hard buying decorations for the tables and organising entertainment for the evening; providing the DJ with a very specific playlist.
“The whole evening was an unmitigated success and credit goes to each and every student for the way they conducted themselves.”
During the evening a three-course meal was served to 204 guests.
