Police nab banned driver going at 100mph towards Warminster
A dozen police officers, including a helicopter and dog unit, helped catch a disqualified driver who fled after he was arrested for driving a Ford Probe at more than 100mph.
The 19-year-old man was stopped by Sgt Sean Brady at 8.30pm on Tuesday, June 24, when the car was travelling on the A350 from Shaftesbury towards Warminster.
Sgt Brady said: “I noticed the vehicle was being driven at an excessive speed so I caused it to stop on a lay-by near the junction with the A303.”
He said that the driver was uninsured and the vehicle was not roadworthy.
Sgt Brady arrested the man, from the Bournemouth area, but he ran off and hid in wooded undergrowth.
Additional officers including a helicopter and dog unit were called and the man was rearrested at 9.50pm.
The 19-year-old was remanded in custody because he was wanted by Dorset police for various motoring offences including failure to appear at Bournemouth Magistrates' Court on motoring charges.
Sgt Brady said: “We have taken another dangerous driver off the road and a dangerous vehicle has been destroyed.”
