Corsham Almshouses Schoolroom welcomed 90 children from Corsham Primary Year 3 as part of their studies of Victorian Britain.

The children came from both campuses and they and their teachers were dressed in Victorian costumes.

They were met by guides also in costume who led a religious session in the schoolroom and gave them a tour around the site.

They were particularly interested in the toilet facilities (or the lack of them) and the fact that the navvies who excavated the Box tunnel slept in the attic.

They were also interested in how the building was constructed and how the stone slabs were raised to the roof.

The guides were also very impressed by the number of visitors the day before – probably a record for the afternoon – most of whom were visiting Corsham Court from Winchester National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies and who came to the Almshouses later in the afternoon.
