IT MAY be the middle of summer but in Royal Wootton Bassett plans are already under way to make this year the best Christmas ever.

Members of the Town Council have already been in touch with the staff at the Forestry in Longleat to order the Christmas Tree which will stand above the roasting chestnuts and last-minute shoppers in the High Street in mid-December.

A spokesman for the town council said: “We get the trees from Longleat and we have to order them at about this time of year and let them know what tree they want.

“This is because there is a lot of preparation involved before we get the tree, and because Longleat gets so busy they need to know in plenty of time which tree we want.”

Despite being only halfway through the year, the town council has also already started planning their year’s Christmas Lights and Shopping Event which will take place on December 5.

From 6pm to 9pm residents will be able to parade the High Street and enjoy the Christmas Wares on offer while taking part in a variety of different street activities.

Those wanting to run a stall at this year’s event can now apply to do so by contacting the council on 01793 850222.

The cost for non-charity stall holders is £35 and for charity stall holders is £12.
