CBBC star Gemma Hunt paid a trip to East Wichel Primary School’s family learning event on Saturday morning.

Gemma, presenter of Swashbuckle, came to the school in a pirate’s costume and did three storytelling sessions. The event, held at the Staldon Road school, was attended by 100 people.

Headteacher Caroline Henham said: “It was a brilliant event with lots of children coming with their mums and dads. Gemma was fantastic, she worked so hard and the children were so pleased to see her. She completely had the children in the palm of her hand and she really engaged with everyone.

“She’s also said that she’d like to come again and do something with us in the new school year.”

During the event, the school’s pupils were encouraged to talk about their favourite book bringing a box of props with them, which was used to explain the story and why they like it.

Before the end of the school year, East Wichel Primary School will be holding a violin concert and a production called Shakespeare’s Rock while there will also be an awards ceremony to round off the term.
