The former British Consul General to Jerusalem, Sir Vincent Fean, visited St Augustine’s Catholic College in Trowbridge to speak to sixth form students about his career.
Sir Vincent, who was also High Commissioner to Malta, spoke about his time in the diplomatic service and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, as well as sharing his knowledge of the various kinds of careers the service offers. His vast experience in foreign affairs meant he was qualified to speak at length about UK relations with the Arab world and the Middle East, most notably the challenging issues in Palestine and Israel.
A group of students interested in foreign affairs and international relations took part in a question-and- answer discussion, followed by lunch in the college dining room.
Deputy headteacher Jo Dixon, who organised the visit, said: “It was a rare opportunity for our students to learn from someone who has been in such a pivotal role in international affairs in so many interesting settings.
“We are very grateful for his generous time.”
