YOUNGSTERS from five Swindon primary schools flocked to St Joseph’s Catholic College to try their hand at a range of musical experiences at a special taster evening.

Around 90 children from Holy Rood Junior School, St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School, St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Holy Family Catholic Primary School and Drove Primary School headed to St Joe’s for an evening organised by the school and the Swindon Music Co-operative.

Janet Hodgson, chairman of the co-operative, said “The aim of this event is to promote and encourage more take-up of instrumental and singing lessons in Swindon’s schools.

“We are offering the opportunity to progress in their musical learning, through being able to choose which instrument they play, and through learning individually or in a small group.”

St Joseph’s music teacher Mel Cooke said: “It was a very successful evening and it was great to have such a positive response from all those who attended. It was lovely to have so many pupils from the local primary schools coming to St Joseph’s and we will be looking out for potential musicians of the future.”

Swindon Music Co-operative provides instrumental and vocal tuition in the majority of Swindon’s schools. For more on how your child can access music lessons visit www.swindonmusiccoop. co.uk or contact 01793 530139.
