Two arrested for drug offences at Melksham Party in the Park
Two men suspected of possessing drugs were arrested at Melksham’s Party in the Park last Saturday, as the summer celebration passed largely without incident.
Police officers helped marshal the crowds for the town’s carnival in the afternoon, and maintained a presence at the Party in the Park festival into the evening.
Several arrests were made in the town on Saturday, but most took place after the summer events had finished.
PC Barry Dalton, of the Melksham neighbourhood policing team, said: “There were a few arrests made relating to public order offences on Saturday, but the majority were after the carnival and Party in the Park, later on in the night-time economy.
“We arrested two adult males early on within the park for possession of Class A and Class B drugs; they’ve both been interviewed and bailed.
“After that there were no further incidents within the park. We had a few people issued with section 27 directions to leave, which had a positive effect moving people on.
“The only other arrests were after the events had all gone on into the evening. There was one assault and a public disorder outside The Tavern, when a man who had been refused entry became verbally abusive to officers, and he was arrested for a public order offence.
“You are always going to have a few people who get a bit stupid, but with that many people it’s almost inevitable that someone gets arrested.
“On the whole though it went off very well. Sergeant James Williams and PCSO Maggie Ledbury were in the rear of the carnival procession in a police car, and they certainly enjoyed themselves.”
