CAR-MAD enthusiasts in Swindon have teamed up with fans from across the country to put on a fun day to raise money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Swindon Street Cruise’s Annual Takeover fun day at Swindon Karting in Wroughton on Sunday will feature more than 400 classic cars, family activities, a fun fair and a bouncy castle.

Swindon Street Cruise founder, Jamie Wyatt, is hoping to raise more than £1,000 towards the running costs of the county’s news helicopter.

“It’s a local charity and at some point, scarily, as drivers we know we might have to rely on it,” said group founder Jamie Wyatt, of Toothill.

“It’s our first big fundraiser. We did something small last year and raised £400 but it was so successful that we decided to go all out this year.

“Organising it has been stressful and it has taken three months. We put our money, time and pride into our cars and we wanted to show them off. “ Putting their energy into a large community fundraiser was also a way for the club to do away with the negative stereotypes associated with car tuning groups.

“We want to give back to the community,” said Jamie. “We also want to show that we are not a group of crazy racers but that we care about the community. And we want to break that image some people have of car groups. This will be the beginning of more fundraisers and getting involved in the community. “ The event will run from 11am until 5pm at Swindon Karting, Wroughton Airfield.
