A teacher and his daughter from Bradford on Avon have joined forces for a second time to write a history book on the secrets of the Avon Valley.
Martyn and Hannah Whittock wrote The Anglo-Saxon Avon Valley Frontier: A River of Two Halves, which spans the Roman Empire to the Norman Conquest.
Former St Laurence pupil Miss Whittock, 24, gained a first in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic from Cambridge University and used research from her degree and MPhil (Masters) dissertation to compile the book.
Mr Whittock, 55, a history teacher for 32 years and curriculum leader for Spiritual, Moral, Social and Culture at Warminster’s Kingdown School, assisted with the pair’s first book, The Viking Blitzkrieg, about the Viking wars, and also helped to bring his daughter’s research into book form this time round He said: “We realised she had an awful lot of information on the Avon Valley and thought it was really interesting.”
The book is available at Ex Libris bookshop in Bradford on Avon and online bookstores.
