The sun shone brightly on the Dorothy House Summer Fete, Winsley, on Saturday when hundreds of people attended the event which offered plenty of fun and games for all the family.

It was opened by swimmer Stephanie Millward, from Box, who won five medals at the London 2012 Paralympics.

She was driven into the arena in a classic Morris 12 car.

Stephanie said: “I was delighted to be asked to open the fete and on such a beautiful sunny day too.

“It’s great to have an opportunity to support an incredible organisation like Dorothy House as the charity does such amazing work.”

A well-attended dog show was held in the main arena.

This was judged by Vicky Cannon, a judge at the Crufts Dog Show, assisted by Mara Cannon making her judging debut.

Top prize was presented to Trudy Shellard and her Airedale terrier Lexie.

Children were entertained with hook-a-duck, a human fruit machine, a coconut shy and many other activities.

One of children’s favourite ‘personalities’, Peppa Pig, even made an appearance.

Organiser Jenny Steele said: “We would like to say a big thank you to all the staff, volunteers and stallholders who helped make the fete a big success.”

The local charity provides community based and hospice care for people with life-threatening illnesses.
