A new-look Moonrakers pub in Devizes has been well received by the public.

The £200,000 transformation of the pub, in Nursteed Road, has turned it into a family steak and grill restaurant. Work was undertaken jointly by owner Wadworth Brewery and the tenant, the Adastra Pub Company.

The pub re-opened last Thursday, but on Tuesday night was officially launched by Devizes mayor Sarah Bridewell. Wadworth shire horses Max and Monty also put in an appearance.

Moonrakers licensee James Sawyer said: “Since we opened we haven’t had a quiet day. We expected it to be busy and it’s been good.

“The place is 100 times better than it was. We have had lots of people who had never come in before, because it was very dark and dingy.”

There are two chefs, with another to come, and 15 front of house staff.

Ken Russell, the licensed business development manager for Wadworth, said: “We have invested in excess of £200,000 to give it a contemporary, spacious new look and feel.”
