THE race to make The Big Knit 2014 the best year ever has begun and Age UK Wiltshire is calling for all knitters to get out their needles to meet the national target of 800,000 hats.

People across the UK will be supporting The Big Knit 2014 by knitting little woolly hats which will sit on Innocent smoothie bottles in 2015.

For each be-hatted smoothie sold, Age UK Wiltshire will receive 25p to help fund winter warmth projects. Age UK Wiltshire has been tasked with knitting 26,500 hats by early October.

Allison Davis, of Age UK Wiltshire, said: “It’s that time of year again and we want to involve as many local people as possible in this year’s effort to knit 26,500 hats for The Big Knit.

“The donation we receive for every smoothie bottle sold will enable Age UK Wiltshire to fund vital projects aimed at keeping people in later life warm and healthy this winter.” For more information on The Big Knit contact Age UK Wiltshire on 01380 727767 or log onto Age UK Wiltshire’s website.

In order for the hats you knit to raise funds locally, send your completed hats to Age UK Wiltshire, Cromwell House 31 Market Place, Devizes. SN10 1JG or drop them off at one of the Age UK Shops nearest to you.
