Staff at Hatts Travel spoke of their shock after being told the Wiltshire family coach firm has ceased trading with the loss of 89 jobs.

They said they had no idea the closure was in the offing.

A steady stream of empty Hatts coaches and Wiltshire Buses vehicles, all out of service, made their way back to the Foxham base for the last time throughout Friday afternoon.

Drivers and other staff left the company's headquarters looking forlorn after learning they had been made redundant.

One man stopped outside the firm's HQ to say how emotional he was to leave after so many years, his voice starting to break as he explained he was one of the most senior drivers at the company.

A 72-year-old who followed said he and his colleagues had not been given any warning the business was about to go under.

The man, who said he had worked there about eight years, said: “There was no warning.

“It’s just one of those things that happen in life. The general feeling is much the same, it’s just one of those things.

“I’m going to get my old age pension now.”
