BODY parts belonging to a man found at a waste facility in Avonmouth yesterday are believed to have been transported with commercial waste from Swindon.

A task force made up of Avon & Somerset Police and Wiltshire Police are in Swindon today as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death continues.

The man is believed to be in his 30s and police are tracking down next of kin to confirm his identity.

Detectives are not currently appealing for witnesses whilst the man’s death is being treated as unexplained. A post-mortem examination will be carried out today.

Police were called to the Biffa depot in St Andrew’s Road at 11.30am on Friday after staff were concerned at what they thought were remains in one of their units.

Senior investigating officer, DCI Gareth Bevan, said: “The incident is being investigated and police are following several lines of inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

“Police enquiries so far suggest the body was transported with commercial recycling waste collected in Swindon and therefore the focus of the investigation will be in that area going forward.

"The investigation is at an early stage and we are keeping an open mind about the circumstances leading to this man's death.”
