Regent Circus development may be open at end of year

This Is Wiltshire: The long-awaited Regent Circus development is expected to open by the end of the year or early next year The long-awaited Regent Circus development is expected to open by the end of the year or early next year

WORK on the Regent Circus Development is entering its final phase with a full opening expected either later this year or early next.

Ashfield Land, which owns the site, is expecting to finish the building work to the restaurants and cinema in September, before they are fitted out.

There have been a few delays which have pushed the work back but the Morrisons store it set to open in the autumn.

That half of the construction is complete, and the supermarket chain has spent the past month fitting out the premises ahead of opening.

When fully open, Regent Circus will have a multi-screen Cineworld along with a number of restaurant chains such as Nando’s, Coal and Prezzo.

James Digby, of Ashfield Land, said: “I would say we are now in the final stages of construction and we would expect building to be finished around mid-September.

“At that stage we will hand everything over to the tenants for fitting out so I would expect everything to open at either the end of the year or early next.

“We have had a few delays but that is construction. Everything is still progressing well and it will open as planned.”

Also opening at the £100m complex will be an Ask and Jimmy’s Spices, leaving two empty units.

One of these has recently been filled although the name of the latest addition is yet to be revealed.

“We have signed an agreement with another tenant so there is now only one left,” said Mr Digby.

“I am not in a position to say who it is at this stage but it is a national chain which everyone will have heard of.

“Talks are ongoing with a number of potential companies to take the final unit so I’m confident that will soon be filled.”

Although it was initially hoped the whole complex would open at around the same time, Morrisons will be opening several months before the rest of the site.

In May, a recruitment drive was started to employ around 200 workers which received a strong response.

A meeting is being held on Thursday when residents will have an opportunity to discuss any concerns they may have about the new road layout around the site which has caused concerns, among other issues. It will start at 6.30pm at the Civic Offices.

In a way I'm glad it's going to take longer (though I'd like it to be open ASAP), as perhaps the Eastcott residents who didn't want longer working hours will then realise that actions have consequences.

Because that's not the chain that's taken the last remaining full-size unit, GBK were already known to have taken a unit.

The remaining unit is a 'kiosk', so unlikely to be anything overly exciting.

He obviously knocked it up quick with a few new photos to update it a bit in desperation to fill up half a page in today's edition of the tawdy rag.

What makes it obvious is that James Digby's quote: “We have signed an agreement with another tenant so there is now only one left,” clearly relates to the Gourmet Burger Kitchen acquisition which was not made public when Benke wrote the original story, but is now common knowledge. Just read ther latest investment brochure form the developer.

Er, that's what I said.

GBK took the second to last unit, one full-size unit has been filled but the name not released and one kiosk unit remains unfilled.

As I said, quite clearly I'd thought, "Because that's not the chain that's taken the last remaining full-size unit"

Why is there an ugly wall next to the site?

Easy - they've built a car park as park of the complex.

How do cleganes comments get +18 votes with pretty ordinary comments above, yet nobody else is anywhere near that? Most in fact have - scores.
Are his comments that popular? We all know the answer to that one.
Because you rigged the voting just so you could post that comment. Pretty obvious.
Yeah sure. I multiple down vote everyone else including myself and up vote you. Get a grip!
Those scores were like that hours before I made that observational comment. keep digging that hole you are in.
Thank you for finally admitting it. Not that we didn't already know.

Also, I'm really not going to bother with this nonsense again. If you can't realise people are sick of your posts about 'thumbs' and 'councillors' then that's your problem.

The only way you can continue your lies if I respond to you, so I will not be doing so any longer. Carry on with your madness if you wish, but ask yourself exactly why you find a newspaper comments section to have taken over your life entirely.

You fool virtually nobody now. South stand will wake up to you in time as well. Trying to blame the one who caught you out with your own behaviour is laughable. You've Been caught so many times now.
How long until you get banned again and create yet another log in?
Why the desperation to look like you win any argument on here? Is it that important?

Im not lying and that grates you so much I know. That's why you've targetted my posts for months now.
Your attempts to flip it onto me as some kind of paranoia fools a few for a while but they soon see through you. Glad to hear you won't respond. I will continue to highlight your abuse of this website though unless you quit your obsessive behaviour and abuse of it.

Looking forward to it opening. Much needed. Shame they appear to be wrecking grand old buildings in the process though.
Everything has its day. Without progress and leaving the past behind we would still be living in caves and chasing our dinner with a spear! The previous building had become a real eyesore, lets look on the positive side of this development for a change.
The red bricked college building could and should be preserved. Mix the old with the new. It works elsewhere.
Yes but this is Swindon where it clearly doesn't! So rather then let it fall down like many other buildings just left to rot, at least something is being done with it!

Good grief!
It's hardly surprising that Sandor Clegane aka ChannelX was also banned from the Talk Swindon web for exactly the same reasons.
Multiple logins, abuse to others, goading, and general troll activities.
I have enough faith in the Adver to predict that some more of his logins will soon be barred

Why should that be?
I know of at least one person that thought Swindon would be a pleasant town after admiring the Town Hall.......
Do you think that should also be replaced?

Leave Greggs and charity shops to the peasants.

YOU are talking a load of tosh. The Harvester near Blunsdon is packed out daily despite being open now for about 18 months. Do you really think with the footfall of the densely populated town centre people won't be flocking to Nandos, GBK, Jimmy's etc. Everyone has been crying out for this complex to open, for years. It's going to do a roaring trade, guaranteed. It's boring reading ignorant NIMBY's talking out of their backside on here, it really is!
