Bus journeys around Trowbridge should become much simpler next month, following the introduction of a unified town service.

First Group have announced that a single circular bus route will now serve the entire town, with buses leaving every 30 minutes.

The new T1 service will replace the current 236, 260 and 263 services, and will serve Hilperton, Paxcroft Mead and Upper and Lower Studley. It will come into effect from August 31, with new timetables currently being printed.

It will start at 6.41am at the Town Hall, and run five days a week until 11.05pm.

The changes come amidst a major shake-up of bus services across the South West, with bus services to Frome, Chippenham and Bath also due to change.

Simon Ford, commercial manager for First West of England, said: “The changes to Trowbridge’s town network are designed to ensure the long term viability of the bus service in the area.

“The new T1 will offer a good service connecting key parts of the town, and in combination with the existing Service 234 and 265, gives residents a way of getting around and about by bus.

“New timetables for the affected services are already available online, and will be available to pick up in hard copy format, from travel shops from August 15.”

Following an agreement with Wiltshire Council, the T1 service will continue to serve the Paxcroft Mead estate, which was initially due to be cut from the route.

A council spokesman said: “We are very pleased to have maintained this service, and we hope it will encourage more people to use the bus in Wiltshire.”

All fares on the new route will be £1.50 for adults, £1 for students with valid photo ID, and 75p for children.
