Heart transplant boy Tyler Wood returned from a weekend of sporting challenges with three medals around his neck.

Tyler, 11, of Primmers Place, Westbury, got a silver medal in the team tug-of-war, a medal for competing in a triathlon and another for a 3k run at the British Transplant Games in Bolton.

His mum Ali said: “It was a fantastic weekend. Tyler was delighted with all of his medals but especially the silver from the tug-of war.

“He loved taking part in his individual events but didn’t quite make it to the podium.”

Tyler, who is a pupil of Bithan Brook Primary School, Westbury, took part in the games as part of the Great Ormond Street Hospital team, two years after he underwent a heart transplant operation.

He competed in the obstacle race, ball throw, 50 metre run and the long jump. He was also pleased that his Great Ormond Street team finished in first place by winning the most gold medals.

Mrs Wood said: “Tyler went to the games last year as well but this year it was even better.”

The family met up with another from Calne after Tyler and Ben Sporle, 14, became friends while having treatment.

Mrs Wood said: “We spent the whole weekend together which was lovely.”
