Oxbridge places for three Chippenham students

Three students from Hardenhuish in Chippenham are off to Oxbridge - Ben Evans secured a place at Oxford, Emma Chen and Alastair Holmes at Cambridge.

Callum Flarnden, of Marshfield, has not decided what he wants to do yet so is taking a gap year to travel in Australia and Europe.

With impressive A*A*AA in maths and sciences, he will have plenty of options.

“After all the stuff on the news saying the grades have dropped, I thought I was going to get all Bs,” he said.

“My mates got texts from uni saying they’d got in, but as I haven’t applied yet I had no idea until I opened the envelope.”

Callum Owens, of Cepen Park North, Chippenham, got BBD and is thrilled to be moving to Swansea to study business management.

“They texted me to say congratulations, you’re in,” he said.

“It amazed me so much on open day. Within five minutes I knew that was where I wanted to go.”

Ryan Minshull, of Monkton Park, Chippenham, thought he had won the lottery when he read ABB.

“I thought I’d fudged it,” he said.

He will study economics at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.

Also reading economics, but at Birmingham, is David Vick, who got A*A*A after travelling to Hardenhuish every day from near Seend.

He was not as anxious as most this morning, having already received an unconditional offer of a place.

Going to study at Exeter are Sam Keat, who got ABB and will do biology, and Max Day, who got BBB and will do computer science.

Sarah Carlyon, from Sutton Benger, was beaming after learning her A*AA had secured her a place reading law and criminology at Birmingham.
