St Laurence School headteacher Fergus Stewart said: “This is a superb set of results, showing a huge increase and a clear trend of improvement over three years.
"We are particularly pleased with high levels of attainment and progress in the key subjects of English and maths."
"Around 75% achieved at least 5 grades A*-C including English and Maths (78% achieved 5 A*-C grades altogether).
"These results reflect immense commitment from this group of young people, who kept the pressure on themselves right up to the end.
"Staff have worked extremely hard, as always, and it is very gratifying to see the effort repaid in such a wonderful set of results.
"Academic excellence is very important to us at St Laurence and we are thrilled that 20 students achieved at least 9 GCSEs at grade A*/A.
"There are many individual achievements for students across the whole range of abilities and we are proud of all of them.
"We look forward to welcoming a record number back into the sixth form in a few weeks’ time."
