HUNDREDS of pounds were raised for local charities as the Southbrook Fete brought people from across the community together on Sunday.

Funds raised from the annual event in the centre of town will be split between the local school, churches, Scout group and Prospect Hospice.

Bob Downing, landlord of the Southbrook Inn, said: “It is always a great turnout and most of the people who come are regulars anyway. They are all great and all the people doing the stalls do a fantastic job of giving their time and energy. The police have turned up and shown the kids their cars, and virtually everything we make goes to charity.”

Bryan Jones, 68, of Southbrook Street, brought his grandchildren along for the day.

“We come here whenever we can and the weather has definitely turned out alright today,” he said.

“It is a great day out because it is always such a good turnout, and it helps that it is all about the charities.”

Diane Everett, of the Swindon Society, brought a presentation of photographs from Swindon’s past for residents to peruse.

She said: “Almost everyone in the community will have something or someone they remember in the photos, so it is a great way to bring them all together.”
