The 30th anniversary of Royal Wootton Bassett Flower Club was celebrated by members and guests at the Memorial Hall, with a demonstration, Shades of the Season, by David Martin.

An engraved glass trophy, in memory of the late former chairman Marie Blackman, was accepted by South West area chairman Mary Keily for an award in the Novice class at area competitions.

The presentation, on behalf of the club, was by Marie’s husband Melvin, who spoke warmly of her enthusiasm and expertise in floral art, in which she encouraged many others.

She had arranged flowers at Westminster Abbey, had a design published in the Flower Arranger magazine, led practical classes, held office at area level and judged at local shows.

Mary Keily said: “We truly appreciate this trophy, which will be presented at the Area Council on October 9 to the winner of the novice class at our forthcoming show.”

The 30th anniversary cake was cut by the club’s founder Sally Harborne and chairman Jan Chambers.

Celebrations will continue with Kate Thomas’ demonstration on October 7 and the pre-Christmas open evening on November 4, with Pam Lewis – tickets are available now at £12 (visitors) and £8 (members).
