Devizes newest and smallest pub has been included in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide less than a year after it opened.

The Vaults in St John’s Street was opened last October by businessman Malcolm Shipp and brewer Chaz Hobden.

Mr Shipp, from Sells Green, who is also managing director of Kennet & Avon Brewery, said “I’m absolutely over the moon. It was a bit of a gamble opening a new pub while there are so many closing, but we’ve stayed true to our values and offer customers a unique tasting experience that you won’t find elsewhere in the region.

“We love to challenge people to broaden their horizons and try new things and the decision to concentrate on beer and cider rather than spirits or alcopops has been welcomed by all who visit.

“The most rewarding thing is having customers enjoying their experience and this recognition by CAMRA for maintaining high standards of quality is the icing on the cake after a lot of hard work.”

Graham Brown, of Devizes CAMRA, said: “The pub has rapidly gained a loyal clientele from real ale drinkers as well as those who like to try out the well in excess of 100 bottled beers from around the world.

“Devizes CAMRA is pleased and proud to have voted The Vaults for inclusion into its hallowed tome, the Good Beer Guide, and sends the pub its very best wishes for the future. So, next time you are in town, and fancy an ale, do pop in, the welcome is warm, the beer cool and the pies delicious.”
