PLANS for a new all weather pitch and associated facilities at Beversbrook in Calne were given the green light on Wednesday.

The plans are part of a new community campus for Calne and will include floodlighting, fencing, a new pavilion entrance, reception, cafe and access for pedestrians and cyclists.

The new facilities will be sited at the Beversbrook Sport and Community Facility and is part of a wider scheme to create a split site community campus for Calne and surrounding community areas.

The proposals, which will be part-funded and run by Calne Town Council, have been developed by the Calne Campus working group.

The group was set up by the area board to ensure the views of the community were reflected in the campus proposal.

Chairman of the group, Coun Alan Hill, said: “I’m delighted the application has been approved which is the first of the three Calne campus sites which has got to this stage and we really feel now that it’s going somewhere.

“People can actually see results from the two years of hard work that the community, through the working group, has put into the development of the Calne Campus.”

The details went to public consultation in the summer as part of the wider vision to create a split site campus in Calne jointly located at Beversbrook, Calne Leisure Centre and a site in the centre of the town.

The plans were approved at Wiltshire Council’s Strategic Planning Committee meeting on Wednesday October 22.
