A launch ceremony to celebrate the completion of a book about Royal Wootton Bassett in the First World War took place last Friday.

The launch of the 720-page local history book by Sheridan Parsons, Wootton Bassett in the Great War, took place at the library in Boroughfields as part of an evening dedicated to commemorating the war.

Two students from Royal Wootton Bassett Academy read poems from the war and there was also a display of memorabilia.

The author gave a presentation and spoke about some of the stories of the people in the book.

She said; “It went better than I expected, because I was a bit nervous. I’ve never done anything like that before.

“There were about 40 people who came along including three families whose ancestors are mentioned in the book.

“There was a good response and good feedback as people were leaving.”
