A 78-year-old man from Royal Wootton Bassett has suffered life-threatening head injuries.

On Wednesday evening, the man was walking along Station Road when he was struck by a grey Fiat Punto, and suffered extremely serious injuries to his head, pelvis and internal organs.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact them as enquiries continue into the incident. The driver of the Fiat was unharmed and is not currently subject to police action.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called at 5.25pm to Station Road in Royal Wootton Bassett to a collision between a car, a grey Fiat Punto, and pedestrian, a 58-year-old male from Royal Wootton Bassett.

“The male had suffered life-threatening head injuries along with pelvic and internal injuries.

“We are appealing for any witnesses in the area at the time.”

A spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service said the man was transported to Great Western Hospital within an hour after being treated at the scene.

“We were called at 5.23pm to reports of a man being hit by a car,” they said.

“Witnesses reported a man being hit, and he was found to have head injuries and was taken to Great Western Hospital by 6.27pm.”
