A fundraising dream team who have raised more than £300,000 for Dorothy House over the past 22 years held their last event together on Wednesday.

Ann Peirce, of Trowbridge, set up Trowbridge and Melksham Friends with Brenda Abbott, of Melksham, after they both lost sisters to cancer. Jill Faint and Christine Brown also joined the group.

The Christmas carol event at Spencer Sport and Social Club in Melksham has been an annual event and this year they handed over a cheque for £9,500.

The money, along with a cheque for £1,430 from Moles Brewery in Melksham from a golf day, means the group has now raised about £300,000 since 1992.

Mrs Peirce said: “It was our last event as a group, although I’m sure we will continue to do things here and there. The team is getting older but we’ve had fun.

“The carol event was lovely. We’ve held a range of events over the years and it was quite poignant and emotional being the last one.”
