AGE is no barrier when it comes to delivering your favourite newspaper – as dedicated pensioner Dave Moore has proven.

The 75-year-old has been named the Adver’s Delivery Agent of the Year, pipping 17-year-old student Michael Prinzi into second place in the awards.

There were more than 1,000 votes in the competition which aimed to reward our hardworking team – and Dave did some campaingning while out delivering.

Dave, who delivers in Wanborough, said: “I was really chuffed when I found out. I’d been out on my route doing a little bit of canvassing and asking people to vote for me.

“I’ve been doing this for six months now and it is a great form of exercise and keeps me fit and healthy. I’m going to keep doing it for as long as I’m fit and healthy.”

Dave is retired but he’d previously worked as an electrician, a taxi driver and on the railways.

At the other end of the scale, Michael has been delivering the paper, in Shrivenham Road, since he was 13 as a form of earning a little extra pocket money.

The New College student, who also works at Tesco, said: “I have been doing this round for about four years now and it is nice to get that recognition and I couldn’t have been runner-up to a better person.

“I first started over the summer and got taken on full-time. I see this as a great way to earn a bit of money.”

Dave has received £50 vouchers for restaurants Chiquito and Frankie and Benny’s; Michael has been given a £50 Frankie and Benny’s voucher; and Anthony Waite, who came third, was rewarded with a £20 Love to Shop voucher.

Rachael Youd, newspaper sales manager, said: “Our delivery agents do an absolutely brilliant job offering a reliable and efficient delivery service to our home delivered customers and we really appreciate them.

“It’s great to see so many of their customers recognising their efforts and voting for them in this competition. Well done and thank you to all of our 240 delivery agents who deliver the paper on a daily basis.”
