A primary and a pre-school that work closely together in Potterne are both celebrating good ratings from inspectors.

Five Lanes Primary and Carers Nest were delighted with the results following inspections by Ofsted.

Inspectors visited the 103-pupil Five Lanes School at the end of October and said in their report that the school is good overall and praised its good leadership, management, behaviour and safety of pupils, quality of teaching, achievement of pupils and Early Years provision.

At the previous Ofsted inspection in 2011 the school was also rated good but expectations of inspectors since then have been raised.

Five Lanes head Sarah Garbutt said: “It is a team effort. All the staff, children, parents and governors have worked tremendously hard and we are delighted that has been recognised by the inspector.”

Emma Blackmore, manager and owner of Carers Nest, said: “As a team we are delighted with our recent Ofsted inspection report.

“Our aim is to provide a homely pre-school environment where children feel safe and secure.

“Ofsted said that ‘children are happy and relaxed within the warm and welcoming environment that the pre-school provides’.

“We are proud to work so closely with Five Lanes Primary School.

“The transition from pre-school to primary school is a gradual process due to the opportunities our older children have experiencing their future in this environment.”

Five Lanes was told that for its grading to go up to outstanding it needed to ensure teachers set work that ensures that all pupils achieve to the highest level.

It also needs to extend the skills of middle leaders so that they make a fuller contribution to the monitoring and development of teaching and learning.
