Police are appealing for witnesses after a 57-year-old man was found in the early hours of Saturday morning in Melksham with serious injuries to his face and legs.

South West Ambulance Service attended reports of an injured man in Pembroke Road in Melksham at 1.30am yesterday.

The man, who is from Melksham, was found with serious facial and leg injuries and was taken by land ambulance to the Royal United Hospital in Bath, where he is being treated. His condition is described as stable.

Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and believe others must have been involved.
