IT will certainly be a frosty January in Great Bedwyn with the primary school and pre-school joining forces to bring the village a Winter Wonderland Fair, including an ice rink.

The 12m by 12m synthetic ice rink will take pride of place in Great Bedwyn Primary School’s playground from 11am until 8pm on January 31 with the last hour allocated for adults only.

The rink will be floodlit and skates will be available as well as penguin supports for toddlers.

Amber Carling, a committee member on both the playgroup committee and the Great Bedwyn School Association, said: “This is the first time the school and the playgroup have come together to fundraise and we thought it would be a very fun day as well as a great way of raising some money.

“We thought that in January, when there is not a lot going on, people would be looking for something to do.

“The idea first came up at the end of last year but we wanted to make sure we did it properly so started planning in September.”

As well as ice skating, there will be fun fair rides, stalls selling hot food, mulled wine and hot chocolate.

Mrs Carling has four-year-old twin daughters Martha and Rose, who are in reception class at the school.

She said: “They are so excited about it. It’s one of the reasons I really wanted to do it.

“The thought of an ice rink coming to their school is so exciting.”

Tickets are on sale at Great Bedwyn School, the White Horse Bookshop, Marlborough, and The Emporium in Hungerford.

Tickets are £5 per person for 30 minutes ice skating.
