DONATIONS for the Prospect Hospice Savernake appeal have been rolling in at St Peter’s School in Marlborough.

Children, from the school on The Parade, went home before the Christmas holidays with empty Smarties tubes to fill up with 20p pieces for the appeal.

So far this week ten filled tubes have been brought in, with many more expected over the next few days.

The school hopes to raise as much as they can through the fundraiser and will be sending out more tubes with pupils over the next week.

Caroline Spindlow, headteacher at St Peter’s, said: “We are very glad to have this opportunity to support the appeal that will bring this much-needed facility to Marlborough.

“We have been very impressed by the children’s efforts with some children bringing in more than one tube.

"They can’t believe how heavy the tubes are once filled with the money; each one can hold up to £12.40.

“When we have spoken at assemblies it becomes clear how many of the families of pupils here have been touched by the care Prospect Hospice provides.”

As well as St Peter’s, Chilton Foliat School and St Michael’s School in Aldbourne have signed up to the Smarties fundraiser.

Also this week, schools in the area will combine forces tomorrow for the joint fundraiser Green Day, when pupils will be encouraged to wear green clothing for the day because of the colour’s association with the hospice.

In return they will each donate £1 to the appeal.
