PUPILS across Marlborough went green for Prospect Hospice in aid of the Savernake Appeal.

Schools in the area combined forces for the joint fundraiser Green Day, last Friday, when pupils wore the colour which is associated with the hospice.

Kate Hunter, development officer at St John’s School, said: “We have already raised money for the Savernake appeal from our sixth form pantomime in December and have other initiatives planned throughout the year.

“A non-uniform day alongside our primary schools is a great way to raise more money for such an important cause.”

One of the primary schools that got involved was Preshute School in Manton, which raised £200.

Headteacher Celia Hicks said: “It was wonderful to see so many of our children participate in the Green Day to raise money for this worthy cause. We even had painted green faces.”

Each pupil donated £1 to the appeal and Prospect is hoping that, once all the money has been collected, the event will have raised around £3,000.

This money will be put towards the £75,000 needed by the end of March in order for Prospect’s new outpatient centre at Savernake Hospital to open in the summer.

Prospect Hospice community fundraiser Sarah Thompson has visited the schools to talk about the appeal and some of the ways in which it can be supported.

She said: “We are delighted the schools in Marlborough took part in our event.

“Since we launched the appeal at the start of October we have been thrilled to see the local community pull together in so many ways to make our vision of the new outpatient centre at Savernake Hospital a reality.

“This is a great way for the young generation to play their part for an appeal that has clearly been so well received in the community.”
