Food Champions from Wiltshire Wildlife Trust are helping people in Chippenham and Pewsey to create their own wildlife gardens thanks to a grant from People’s Postcode Trust.

The project has been given £7,876 by the charity, which is funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery and the money will be shared between sites run by housing associations GreenSquare and Aster Property.

GreenSquare chose The Ivy at Field View in Chippenham and Aster Property chose The Links in Pewsey.

The money will help pay for tools, storage, seating, plants and trees, as well as covering initial management costs.

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust project officer Simon Lathbury said: “We have seen that accessible, affordable, fresh food improves people’s health and wellbeing. The residents are so enthusiastic about their garden. It’s given them a focus and become an important part of their lives.

“Funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery means we can continue to support the fantastic work being done by GreenSquare and local residents.”

The Ivy has around five residents attending regularly and they have been making hazel hurdles, creating beds from old bath tubs, making a picnic bench and building paths and bird tables.

Mr Lathbury is on site in Chippenham on the last Monday of each month between 10am and 3pm.

Pewsey residents are being encouraged to go to the garden and helpon the second and third Monday of each month, from 11am-3pm.
