A MAN is fighting for his life after falling 30ft from a window of a town centre pub.

The incident happened at 8.58am yesterday when the man, named locally as Johnny Webb, fell from a window at The Cricketers Arms pub in Emlyn Square.

Passersby rushed to help the 56-year-old and called the emergency services.

It has been confirmed he suffered injuries to his head, ribs and legs in the fall.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics, with the Wiltshire Air Ambulance landing in Faringdon Road Park.

At 10.20am, the helicopter left the park and took Johnny to Southmead Hospital, in Bristol, where he remains in a critical condition.

A man who rushed to Johnny’s aid, who did not wish to be named, said witnesses were shocked by the fall.

“I saw him fall and it was terrible,” he said.

“He was in a bad way when I got to him. I really hope he survives, he’ll be lucky to be alive after that.”

Witnesses are being sought by Wiltshire Police who are investigating the incident.

Detective Inspector Lisa Clarke, from Swindon CID, said: “We are keen to hear from any witnesses to this incident. I would ask anyone with any information to contact us via 101.”

It is understood that Johnny was a homeless man who had been staying at the Cricketers Arms.

Regulars at the pub described him as an outgoing person who enjoyed socialising in Swindon and was a very active member of the community.

Anyone with information can call the police on 101. Alternatively, information can be left anonymously with the Crimestoppers service on 0800 555 111.
