BRIAN Davis destroyed any trust his victim had for other people when he creeped into her bedroom and groped her while she slept.

Davis, 48, who has since left Swindon and lives at Stapleton Hall Road in London, will face a sexual offences prevention order and be banned from working with children when he is sentenced next month.

Swindon Magistrates’ Court heard that Davis sneaked into the bedroom of his victim, 20 years his junior, and when he began touching her she awoke in fright and fled the house.

Davis admitted one count of sexual assault on October 31 last year and will return to court on March 23 for sentencing.

Pauline Lambert, prosecuting, told the court Davis and his victim had known each other for ‘many years’.

“She has always felt totally comfortable with him, and never felt uneasy or threatened,” she said.

“She went to bed at around 11pm with the door closed and lights off, and he was watching TV downstairs.

“The next thing she knew, she woke up bolt upright, frightened out of her wits. He was standing in the doorway, and said, ‘calm down, you’re sleeping’, and she goes back to bed.”

Davis returned to the room later that night and began touching her.

Ms Lambert said: “She sat there, petrified. She is so shocked she goes out to her car screaming and crying, so scared she was shaking.”

A victim impact statement read to the court said: “I feel like this has affected me in a big way. I am finding it hard to sleep or be in the house on my own for fear he may come back.

“Every time I talk or think about it I break down. I hate him for what he has done to me, and I never thought he would do something like this to anyone. I now find it hard to trust anyone, even the people around me that I love.”

Wayne Hardy, defending, said Davis’ life had fallen apart as a result of what he did that night.

He said: “There is a substantial breach of trust here. While she is 28 years old now and not a vulnerable person, there is psychological damage. He is genuinely remorseful for what happened, and he can’t really explain why he did it. He says it was a very stupid thing to do.

“He had no desire towards this girl at all and no problems in the past with sexual impropriety whatsoever.

"It is a decision he instantly regretted.

“As a result of his actions, his life crumbled.”

Davis was released on unconditional bail ahead of his sentencing on March 23, when he will expect to receive a sexual offences prevention order.
