MEMBERS of Trowbridge Youth Parliament were presented with a cheque for £250 from Wessex Watermark on Wednesday (March 4) for their community garden project in Trowbridge Park.

The project involves charitable organisation The Big Community Grow, which is working with the children from schools across the area to create a Garden for the Next Generation.

It is being made near the Civic Centre and Odeon Cinema and will include sustainable plants that reflect the town’s history.

Gillian Smith, Wessex Water’s education advisor, attended John of Gaunt School on Wednesday to present the cheque to the chair and vice chair of the youth parliament.

Mel Jacob, co-founder of The Big Community Grow, said: “The children are working with the Friends of Trowbridge Park and also have to liaise with local businesses.

“They are learning at a young age how to express their ideas and how to work with their peer group and older generation. We are delighted to have this support from Wessex Water and it will go towards buying water butts to recycle water.”

Chair of the TYP Izzy Greaves, 10, of Bellefield Primary, said: “We want to make the community garden as we want everyone to enjoy it and appreciate it like we would.”
