WORD of the Marlborough Science Fair at St John’s has spread to far-flung galaxies and this year the event will be visited by a SteamPunk Dalek and a Droid.

The Science Fair is part of the school’s contribution to British Science Week and will take place on Saturday 21 March between 10am–2pm.

The SteamPunk Dalek and SteamPunk Droid are being brought to St John’s by Mark Enright of Wiltshire based podpadstudios, which builds models and props for Theatre, Film and TV.

Other exhibitors include the police, fire service, Wiltshire Heritage Museum, the Institute of Physics, Crofton Beams, and Wiltshire Astronomical Society.

Throughout the day there will be hands on experiments, fun science exhibits and activities as well as family science shows and a planetarium.

Organiser Sally Bere, community director at St John’s, said: “It’s a really exciting line up. We’ve got the SteamPunk Dalek and the SteamPunk Droid which I think should be quite interesting and I imagine quite a large queue waiting to see them.

“Every year I think it can’t get any better than the last one and then we get to this stage and I think ‘wow’.”

During the day there will be two science shows at 10am and 12.15pm, two Bubble Shows at 11.10am and 1.20pm and the planetarium will run three dinosaurs at dusk shows and three under the sea- zula patrol shows.

There will be also be a lecture, Climate Science from a Climate Scientist by Dr Paul Williams from the University of Reading, which is free to attend.

A free minibus will transport people between the George Lane Car Park and St John’s which will pick up and drop off outside the Children’s Centre.

Last year’s event was attended by more than 2,500 people last year and The British Science Association named St John’s as the top UK secondary school for its outstanding work during Science Week 2015.        The Science Fair is free to attend but an entrance fee is being charged for the science shows and planetarium.
