PRINCE Charles and Camilla have donated a Highgrove garden tour for next week's Wilts & Berks Canal Trust auction.

The event next Thursday, March 26 at the Angel Hotel, Chippenham, will raise money for the restoration of the canal near Chippenham.

The jewel in the lots crown is a two hour guided tour of the Prince's gardens in Gloucestershire followed by a champagne tea for two in the Orchard Restaurant, while being entertained by the resident pianist.

Malcolm Hitchinson, events committee chairman for the Melksham, Chippenham and Calne branch of the trust, said: “HRH Duchess of Cornwall is the patron of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust, and this is another example of the wonderful support she has given the trust over the years.

“We are sure that this will be a very popular lot at the auction; we will be thrilled if it achieves between £150 and £200.”

More than 80 other lots also include a charter trip on the Trust’s own narrow boat Dragonfly, weekend passes to the Village Pump Folk Festival, tickets to the Yeovilton Air Day, a hands-on experience on a vintage steam launch, original watercolours from local artists and an alto saxophone.

The free entry event, at 7pm, will be hosted by auctioneer Gordon Brockman of Chippenham Auction Rooms. A full list of lots can be seen at www.melkshamwaterway.org.uk and bids can be taken in advance for those unable to attend. Call (01373) 859207 or email auction@wbct.org.uk
