THE committee of Christian Malford’s scarecrow trail are today busy going through 400 trail sheets to find out which of the 55 Disney-themed scarecrows have been voted favourite.

Hundreds visited the village near Chippenham on a chilly but dry weekend to guess the identities of straw goodies and baddies.

These included Elsa from Frozen, Maleficent, Tinkerbell and Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Carribean.

Committee chairman Laura Sidhu said she was astounded at the growth of the trail, now in its fourth year, which raised £4,500 compared with £3,700 last time.

Sponsorship of 50 scarecrows by businesses, including main sponsor Angel Gabe, means all revenue will be shared between Acorns Pre-school and the village primary school.

Mrs Sidhu, who herself built Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from Tangled, said: “It was a really brilliant weekend, and busier than last year. We sold 400 trail sheets and last time it was just under 300.

“Because we have so many to go through, we don’t know yet who has won, but we will be getting that done today.

"We will also be making a decision on the builders’ choice. It is not always the same, as the first may be a popular character whereas the builders know how much work has gone into something.”

Friends of the Church volunteered to man the cream tea stalls at the school, and First Great Western and Bowood donated the star prizes for the raffle, which raised about £800.
