PET charity Blue Cross has teamed up with Companion Care Vets, in Swindon, to help people in the area neuter their cats.

Neutering vouchers, which are are available from the Blue Cross to cat owners, provide money towards the cost of neutering a pet cat.

The vouchers can be used at Companion Care Vets at Pets At Home in St Margaret’s Retail Park and the Blue Cross hopes the offer will encourage owners to get their cats castrated and spayed.

Hannah Wiltshire, who manages the Blue Cross Rehoming And Advice Unit at Pets At Home, said: “Neutering your cat has lots of benefits.

“Not only does it help prevent litters of unwanted kittens, but it also has lots of health benefits too, such as a reduction of certain cancers.

“People don’t realise how easily cats can get pregnant. We see lots of unwanted kittens and pregnant mums at our rehoming centres and hopefully this scheme will help reduce the number of homeless cats.”

The vouchers, which are available through the Blue Cross Rehoming And Advice Unit in Pets At Home Swindon and Blue Cross rehoming centre in Burford, give £20 towards the cost of castrating a male cat, and £30 towards the cost of spaying a female cat.

Garry Adams, of Waggoner Close, had his cat Nala neutered through the Blue Cross scheme. He said: “Nala’s coming up to nine months now and we thought it was time we got her neutered. I’d definitely recommend others to use the Blue Cross vouchers to get their cat neutered.

“We’ve decided to get our other cat Romeo done too using the scheme.”

Blue Cross cares for more than 4,600 sick, injured and homeless cats every year. Cats can get pregnant as young as four months old and it is estimated that an un-neutered cat can have up to 20 kittens a year.
