Malmesbury town councillor Charles Vernon, who is an active user of the Activity Zone, ihas expressed his shock at the possible imminent closure of his local centre.

"It's very bad news," he said: "It's very bad management.

"It's not keeping track of what is going on and it's very difficult to understand.

"This is incredible. I just can't understand how they have got into such a mess."

He added: "It does not bode well for the future, because if this company (NWLL) got into such a mess, how are their replacements (DC Leisure) going to do much better?

"It's very difficult to see how huge, unexpected costs could suddenly arise.

"Let's hope this new management company are in a different league to the current one."

A decision is expected to be announced at any moment as to whether all six leisure centres in North Wiltshire will close as early as tonight.

Chairman of Corsham Town Council, Allan Bosley, said: "Couldn't they see this coming? There is a real communication problem with North Wiltshire District Council and it needs to be addressed.

"It is the national curriculum of our children that will suffer the most especially as the centre is used a great deal for swimming by all our local schools.

"The town council will be outraged because Corsham actually funded the original development of the sports centre."

As a regular user of TAZ I would like to know when Mr Vernon actually uses the centre I for one have never seen him. It seems like every politician is jumping on the band wagon at the moment, they are not normally interested in the leisure centres or any events that go on. Mr Vernon please keep staying away from the centre we don’t want to see you.
