POLICE are asking parents to be aware of their children's whereabouts after a 16-year-old Chippenham girl was found collapsed on The Bridge after drinking.

The girl’s father came to pick her up after she was found by police at about 10pm on Saturday.

PC John Brixey, community beat manager for the town centre, said: “This has happened several times over the past month. On this occasion an ambulance was not called but they have had to be on other occasions, tying up the time of dedicated health professionals.

"The onus has to be on the parents to know what their children are doing, especially in the wake of the recent fatalities in River Avon in Bath."

Christopher Taylor, a 21-year-old student from Merseyside, was walking home after celebrating the end of his exams in January last year when he fell into the Avon.

An inquest heard he had twice the legal drink-drive limit of alcohol in his blood.
