LUCKY reader Rhys Jones has won the Adver competition to win a top-of-the-range scooter ahead of next week’s Urban Rider Games.

The youngster from Greenmeadow was selected to win the scooter and a family ticket to the inaugural games from the ATBShop Skate Warehouse, which is based on the Hawksworth Trading Estate.

Worth £150, the scooter has a concave triple channel deck with all new infinity down tube plus a fully integrated deck and head parts and high tensile fork.

Diana Kirk, a director at ATBShop, said: “I think it’s brilliant that someone in Swindon has won it and hopefully he will get a lot of use out of it.

“If we decide to hold the games again next year he may even come along.

“It’s only a week to go now until the games and we’re all getting really excited. We can’t wait to see all the talent in one place and celebrate the extreme sports.

“We will be holding a couple of run-throughs in the next week to make sure everything goes smoothly on the day itself, so we’re a little nervous but mainly excited and looking forward to it.”

The Swindon Advertiser is sponsoring the first ever Urban Rider Games, set to take place on April 10. It is expected to be a showcase of the remarkable talent of skateboarders, scooters and BMX riders.

Judges for the competition include pro-rider Ryan McNamara and there are expected to be 100 competitors on the night in front of an audience of around 300.

Diana said: “We wanted to dispel the image that people have when they look at people on BMXs and scooters. People assume they are going to cause trouble and that people will be wearing hooded jackets.

“The games are about getting people to forget about that and the extreme sports community being able to showcase their talents.

“It’s a good way for children to exercise and socialise – all these sports make use of their whole body. It’s like going to the gym for these kids.

“A lot of them come down after school and It is amazing how talented they are at such young ages. We had one boy doing backflips casually on his way out.”
