THOUSANDS of local music fans are expected to descend on the Recreation Ground in Calne on June 6 for the fifth annual CalneFest.

The community music and entertainment festival has added a third headline act Scratch Perverts and a host of local bands to the line-up.

Scratch Perverts will headline the What's That?!? Eventimate Dance Tent joining main stage and comedy tent headliners Dodgy and Andrew O’Neill respectively.

Regulars at nightclub Fabric, in London, Scratch Perverts have influenced many in their chosen field with a far-reaching mix of styles. Their skills have seen them support the likes of the Beastie Boys and The Sex Pistols.

Organiser Glenis Ansell said: "We’ve come a long way since 2011 and I’m so grateful for all the hard work put in by the Calnefest team and the support we get from our local community.

“All the hard work and planning is beginning to pay off and I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved so far.”

Calnefest, which began in 2011 with Mrs Ansell, then Calne Mayor, putting on an event to give local bands somewhere to perform, is fast becoming one of the biggest events in the region.

A small group of helpers assembled after its initial success, moving the location to the Recreation Ground and adding two further stages for 2012, the Live Lounge, for solo artists and acoustic singers and songwriters, and the dance tent.

After 30 live acts and 3,500 tickets sold in 2012, twelve months later saw a 5,000 ticket sell-out.

Now in its fifth year, Calnefest is still evolving with the addition of a comedy tent, hosted by Chippenham’s Wil Hodgson, a regular Edinburgh Comedy Fringe performer and headlined by multi-award nominated comedian, metalhead and amateur occultist, Andrew O'Neill.

Mr O’Neill has appeared on Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Saxondale as well as regularly appearing on the comedy stages at Download, Sonisphere and Reading and Leeds festivals.

In addition to Britpop headliners Dodgy, best known for Staying Out for The Summer, CalneFest is set to welcome many bands from across the region including All Ears Avow, Rewire the Time Machine, Corky, The Real Cheesemakers and the Chaos Brothers.

The festival will also help raise money for local youth charities, Calne Youth Drop-in Centre, Calne Youth Music Project and 1st Calne Scouts.

Advanced tickets are available now at just £7.50 for a standard ticket, £5 for children under 12 and £18 for a family ticket, two adults and up to three children under 12, from online or from Sainsbury’s Calne or the Calne Information Centre.
